Today was the official launch of Geek and Sundry, the YouTube channel produced by Felicia Day, Kim Evey, and Sheri Bryant. To kick things off, we got a new video from the cast of The Guild. They've tackled pop and dance music and now they are rocking out in this video. I've read some of the comments on YouTube how the song is pandering to the "jocks" level, but I think it's not the first song where the nerd/geek gets the glory. Look at Revenge of the Nerds or even "You Belong with Me." The song is meant to be fun and not taken too seriously.

Sunday Videos: Nerdy and Geeky
Usually when I watch YouTube it's because of one of these things:
- The latest viral video
- Fan made videos of my fandoms/ships
- Music videos
- Tutorials
Now I'll have two more reasons to tune into YouTube more often, Felicia Day's Geek & Sundry channel and Chris Hardwick's Nerdist channel. :D

Comic-Con Recap: Saturday
Friday was fun, but Saturday was totally awesome. It was also the only day I wore a costume and I decided to wear my Penny costume. I thought it turn out good. I bought a red wig for the outfit, but when I put it on it just didn't look right, so I ditched it.
Cardigan, Top and Skirt: Old Navy
Necklace and Ring: Forever 21
Sandals: Payless
Even though I had my little yogurt cup, most of the other convention goers thought I was a modern update on Snow White. Hey at least I was recognized as something. Just replaced the poisoned apple with poisoned fro-yo.
Before I went in line to get into the one panel I really wanted to go to at, The Guild, I did even more exploring and picture taking.

Even though I took a picture with Frank (from Donnie Darko), he did not influence me to do criminal acts. |

Artist Ken Lashley spent Comic-Con drawing some amazing Star Wars artwork on a Volkswagen Passat. |

I loved these girls TARDIS dresses |
The one panel I didn't want to miss was of course The Guild's. It didn't start until 4pm, but I was already waiting in line at noon. So I was in line for about 2 1/2 hours before I was able to get into the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton, but it was worth it.
After a little AV snafu, where the video and audio was all mixed up, they showed a recap of the past 4 seasons that was narrated by the one and only Randall of Honeybadger Don't Care Fame. They also showed the audience the first episode of season 5 which I enjoyed because for the first time the group is really out of their home element by going to a gaming convention. There was no music video premire this year since Felicia has been busy with her next web series based on the Dragon Age video game and filming on the TV show Eureka. But she did say there could be one in the fall. Yay!

The Guild cast: Felicia Day (who's also writes the series), Sandeep Parikh, Amy Okuda, Vincent Caso, Robin Thorsen and Jeff Lewis
How awesome is this? The cast is going to be on Jones Soda bottles!
When the panel was done, I made my way back to the hotel and got ready for the live Nerdist Podcast over at 4th &B. I've been listening to the Nerdist Podcast since the first episode with Thomas Lennon, so when I heard that they were going to do a live show during Comic-Con, I had to go. When I got my ticket, they didn't mentioned who the special guests were going to be and later on found it with was Matt Smith and Karen Gillan of Doctor Who. Mind you, this was before I really got into the show. I kept hearing about this show about Doctor and his contraption called a TARDIS and I watched a few episodes of season 1 but that was the extent of it. But it was such a fun podcast to be at and it piqued my interest for the show even more and now two weeks later, its now one of my favorite shows.
If that wasn't enough there was another special guest, the one and only Wil Wheaton which made it an even more awesome podcast. Since him and host Chris Hardwick have been friends since they were teenagers, they have great comradery. I also hate to say this because I like them too, but there were times that I totally forgot that Chris's co-hosts Matt Mira and Jonah Ray were there. Especially when Matt and Karen were on stage. But despite that, there were still funny moments during the taping.
- Wil mentioned a friend that would have Doctor Who parties and his friend created a TARDIS that served as the entrance to his house. How cool is that! Matt Smith didn't know that Wil played Gordie in Stand by Me and was floored when found out. Matt then kept saying "Leeches, leeches!"
- Of course there would be mentions of Star Trek.
- An audience member had a Steven Moffat puppet and was brought upstage for Matt and Karen to see.
- To prep for his role as the Doctor, Matt Smith would read a book of Einstein quotes while in the loo.

Later on I went over to The El Dorado Cocktail Lounge where my friend Leila was hosting a Sin-City Noir style party. If I lived in San Diego, this would definitely be a place to hang out. Not only did it have awesome music, great drinks and fun decor, but they also had old TV shows and movies playing on the TVs by the bar. When I was there, one screen was showing an old Episode of Doctor Who with Tom Baker as the 4th doctor while the other one had a Planet of the Apes movie from the 60's or 70's (don't remember which one it was).
I had tons of fun but it was also sad because I knew that Sunday would be the last day of Comic-Con and I me (along with thousands of other attendees) didn't want it to end.

Guildie for Life
A few weeks ago I posted how I sent Felicia Day a link (via twitter) of my Guild post (she was looking for links to fashion blogs) and how she ended up bookmarking it. I thought that was cool and didn't think much of it afterwards. Fast forward to today and I'm just checking my e-mails when I saw one from Brian Kameoka, who's in charge of The Guild's twitter and blog. He was letting me know that with season 5 premiering this week him and Felicia wanted to start Fan Friday, where they would feature a fan each week and I that I would be the first one.
I was in the car with my brother when I got the e-mail and I had to read it twice before I realized that it was real. No, I didn't freak out in the car, I don't want to embarrass myself that much, but I was grinning ear to ear. I'm really honored to be featured and to make it even more awesome, Brian let me know that it was Felicia that insisted I should be the first Fan Friday.
How awesome is that? That's why I love Felicia and everyone that's a part of The Guild. They are so appreciative of their fans and you can tell that they love what they do. This also now makes Felicia my #1 girl crush. Sorry Zooey!
Check out The Guild's blog to see the full post and if you know someone that's also a big fan of The Guild, nominate them here. Who knows, they can be the next person featured in Fan Friday.
Also the first episode of season 5 is on the interwebs. New episodes premiere on Xbox live on Tuesdays and then it posts online on Thursdays. Still haven't watched The Guild yet? What are you waiting for! You watch all four seasons on instant Netflix or on You Tube.

"I wanna grow my money, Tink! Not spend it on cheese gouging!"
Cardigan, top, and skirt: Old Navy
Belt, bracelet and necklace: Forever 21
I had to change a few things with the outfit. I added the cardigan and I didn't have green flats or a yellow belt, so I replaced them with my go to pewter sandals and braided belt. I also didn't have a sword, so this super hero stance will have to do.
I'm going to re-create the rest of The Guildies outfits in the next two weeks, so look out for that. This will also give me a reason to change out of my workout clothes. Ha.
Also if you're wondering, the post title comes from one of the many things Vork does not like and how he's an extreme penny pincher. Need more proof? Check out his tips for surviving a recession.

Style Inspiration: The Guild
It always ceases to amaze me where you can find style inspiration. Most of the time you think of celebrities, bloggers or people on the street. Then there's music, art, movies and books. But sometimes style inspiration horizons need to be broaden. So I thought it was really neat that College Fashion did a series of getting inspiration from favorite gaming characters. It got me thinking, I'm always milling around Polyvore, so why not create a set for one of my favorite web-series, The Guild. I have mentioned the series before, but the series created and starring Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog) centers around a guild of World of Warcraft style gamers (or to be more technical, MMORPG) and what happens they not only interact online but also in real life. As I've said before, you don't have to be a gamer to enjoy it, although I do utilize Google when I don't understand certain gaming terms. Plus I'm excited to see the cast at Comic-con again in less than a month. Whoot! So I thought I'd pay tribute to The Guild by creating sets for each of the characters in their online persona.
As I was creating these sets, I realized that I might have similar pieces to for some of the looks. So look yet another interpretation of these outfits. Plus all four seasons of The Guild are currently streaming on Netflix. With each season being around an hour, you'll have plenty of time to catch up before season 5 starts later this summer.

Sunday Videos: Something Viral This Way Comes
How was everyone's new years? I spent mine dancing with friends in da club. Well more like a new years party at the local indian gaming casino. :P I'll have an outfit recap for that soon.
But it's Sunday video time and here are my favorite viral videos from 2010.
There are some you may have seen before, some you may have not. But sit back and enjoy.
If you have a favorite viral video, please post it in the comments. I need more ways to spend non-productive hours on my computer. I can only play Farmville so much.

Halloween Town
Jacket: Gap
Shirt, sweatshirt, shorts and tights: Old Navy
Belts: Target and Walmart
Bag: self-made
Goggles: Bought at Comic-con
Boots: Reflections
So here it is, my Ramona Flowers costume. It was also probably one of the easiest costumes to source, since a majority of the items came from my closet. The only things I bought where the purple tights, the blue wig and star purse which is actually one of those round cardboard boxes that I painted.
I had one person recognize who I was on Friday. He did ask me where was my sledge hammer, which unfortunately didn't have enough time to make. With a few tweaks, such as changing the jacket and shorts, I would this to Comic-Con next year.

Speaking of Comic-Con, tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am PST. Unfortunately I have to work in the morning, so I'm having my brother get the tickets for me. I think I'm going to get the 4-day pass and this time around get my room accommodations squared away much sooner than I did for the last Comic-Con.
What did you dress up as for Halloween?

Game On
Dress: American Eagle Outfitters
Denim Jacket: Gap
Ring: Charlotte Russe
Day four, Saturday was the busiest day of Comic-Con by far. More people, more costumes, more craziness. I planned on going the special Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Experience at the Hilton Gaslamp Courtyard across from the convention center which opened at 10am, but when I got there around 9:30am the line went around the hotel room, which brings me to....
Comic-Con Lesson #3: There will be lines.
Lines are inevitable. Something I learned quickly on preview night. So either get there early so you can be near the front of the line or have a book or music player in hand and be prepared to wait up to 2+ hours. Also, really utilize the map that comes in the program guide. They show where the lines start and end for each of the panel rooms. If I paid closer attention to it, I would have know to check for the end of the line first and not be shocked by the line.
Instead, I walked through the exhibition floor again taking more pictures and trying out some of the games they had there. I played Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies for the Nintendo DS and was fun. The last "game" I played have been Farmtown and Cafe World and I don't think they really count as real games. :P I might have to get myself some type of gaming system soon. I also tried out the Playstation Move. It's similar to the Nintendo Wii, but it was weird using it. The controllers have these glowing orbs on the ends and I felt like I was one of those airport workers directing the plane when I used it.
It was also Star Wars day, so there was there was Star Wars costumes abound. No I didn't take any pictures of girls in the Princess Leia Slave costume :P , but I did take pictures of others in costume. Here are some of them...
And my favorite...

It was around 12:30 when I made my way over the Indigo Ballroom over at the Hilton for The Guild and Community panels. Of course there was a line, but I was still able to get in and sat through the Sanctuary panel.
Comic-Con Lesson #4: You will sit through other panels in order to be at the panel you came for.
Then came two hours of awesome. First off was The Guild panel. The cast was so surprised that the ballroom was filled to its 2,663 capacity. I was happy that they moved to a larger hall space because from what I heard last year a lot more people weren't able to go to the panel.
Not only did they show episode 3 of the new season, but they also debuted their new music video, which producer Kim Evey cleverly said was episode 4.
I didn't think they could top "(Do You Wanna Date My) Avatar." But they did with "Game On" in all it's Bollywood glory.
The crowd was going wild when the video was on. It was great and I would totally put the song on a work-out mix, if I ever, ahem, work out. :P

Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Sandeep Parikh |
Other interesting things that happened during the panel:
- Wil Wheaton really enjoys his role as Fawkes. It gives him a chance to play a character that not only viewers hate but he hates too, since it goes against his whole not being a dick.
- During the audience Q&A, someone asked director Sean Becker what kind of camera he used to film the episodes and after Sean answered the question, someone yelled out "boring!" In which Felicia replied, "Do we have a troll in the audience?" Then I think Sean said "Get him." Not to worry, until like what happened in Hall H that day, no one got stabbed in the eye.
- Also during the audience Q&A, a guy dressed as Col. Sanders offered Vincent Caso, who plays Bladezz, a job at KFC is his job at Cheesy Beards (where his character works) doesn't work out. Felicia was like "Why is he offering a job to a guy that already has a job?" Which prompted Wil to respond with "Welcome to Comic-Con" and the crowd went wild.

Hour two of awesomeness came in the form of the Community panel. With the whole cast, producers, and creator Dan Harmon there, it was yet another fun hour. One of the first questions that was asked was how Harmon was going to top the brilliant "Modern Warfare" episode, he replied that he wants to send them to outer space next season. Also upon seeing the standing ovation from the crowd, Gillian Jacobs (Britta) cried happy tears, which was really sweet. If I was in her position, I would too.

Joel McHale and Alison Brie |

Gillian Jacobs, Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown and producers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. |
![]() |
Donald Glover, Danny Pudi and producers Russ Krasnoff, Neil Goldman, and Garret Donovan |
Some other highlights from the panel:
- When asked where he finds time to sleep between doing Community and The Soup, Joel McHale replied, "I sleep during my stand-up gigs." He's also still trying to surpass Ryan Seacrest in the job department.
- Also Donald Glover and Danny Purdi gave the audience two little musical ditties. The first one is "Donde esta la Biblioteca" and the second one is "Somewhere Out There" from An American Tail
After those two great panels, I took a break from Comic-Con and met up with my friend Ashley for lunch, girl talk, and some shopping at the mall next to my hotel. Then later that night I went back downtown with my brother for a special screening of the movie Hesher.
Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rain Wilson, Natalie Portman, Piper Laurie, and Devin Brochu. The movie is about how a loner named Hesher (Gordon-Levitt) somewhat befreinds T.J. (Brochu) and his father Paul (Wilson) both who are still grieving the death of their mom/wife two months prior. It was an quirky movie, my brother said it reminded him of The Squid and the Whale.
Leave it to Joseph Gordon-Levitt to make me like a character that should be undesirable. He was greasy and dirty, had a tendency to either blow things up or set fire to him, and was vulgar. I guess it's that bad boy character we love to hate.
As a bonus, the movie was introduced by the director of the film Spencer Susser along with Devin Brochu and Natalie Portman. She's just a beautiful in person.
I ended the night eating Cup-a-Noodle and watching the unedited version of Shaun of the Dead on Comedy Central. To think that my Comic-Con experience was drawing to a close.
I'll leave you with pictures I took on Saturday...
