I haven't blogged in a while, so what better way to get back into the swing of things with a no-fail outfit post.

This months Everybody, Everywear is neon. I don't really have neon in my closet and I didn't want to spend money on something I would probably wear once or twice. So I did the next best thing, I DIY'd it.

I have the ubiquitous lace skirt from Target that a lot of bloggers were wearing last year and with colored lace being popular this season, why not repurpose it? So I bought a box of Rit dye, in the brightest color I could find (besides yellow) and went to task of dying it. The box said it wasn't suitable for 100% polyester and synthetic fabrics, but I went for it anyway and I'm quite pleased with the results.
The slip didn't take to the dye too well, but I like how it's lighter than the lace. So now I have a brand new skirt that only cost me $2.29.

I feel like this season you can go to either end of the color spectrum. You can choose the bold colors of cobalt blue or tangerine to the soft pastels of baby pink or mint. For this outfit I'm channeling the latter. It also happens to be this months theme for Everybody, Everywear. I actually don't own too many pastels, but I was able to find  this top in my closet. Also I wore this outfit when I went to a BBQ Festival over the weekend and managed not to get anything on my tank top. This past weekend, I did a major closet purge and was able to donate two large garbage bags to my local Goodwill. It felt so good just getting rid of things I never wore and was probably never going to wear. While I was cleaning my closet, I found this dress smushed in between some other dresses and its the tag was still attached. The dress is a good 5-7 years old because I got it from Mervyn's before the company folded and all its stores closed and now I'm finally wearing it. I might have to thank Everybody, Everywear for that.

This month's Everybody, Everywear is sequins and sparkles, something I can never get enough of. Who doesn't like a little sparkle in their wardrobe? I featured this top on my Fall Trends post and it was an item I bought a long time ago, but never wore. So what a better time than today to pull it out of the closet. I ended up pairing it with the cardigan not only because it tones down the sequins a bit, but there's sequins in the armpit area and it just makes a lot of noise when I move my arms. Probably not the best idea to put sequins there.

 I will also say that taking these outfit pictures yesterday took longer than I thought. Not only was it sprinkling outside, but it was getting dark, and my camera battery was dying on me, so the above two photos were the only ones that looked decent. The rest of them looked like this...

I wasn't even moving when I took these. I'm thinking the low battery combined with taking continuous shots caused a slow shutter speed. Hence these pictures. Although, don't they look kind of artsy? Eh, maybe not.

This month's Everybody, Everywear is colored tights. A few years ago I wouldn't have the courage to wear them and  would just stick to classic black. But now I'm embracing wearing them in all the colors. LOL. Not only do they incorporate more color to an outfit, but they  are must for those like me who still want to wear skirts and dresses without turning our legs into Popsicles. I decided to break out one of the boldest colors I own, fuchsia. I was originally going to wear a oatmeal cardigan, but then I would have had three different shades of brown on me. Pairing it instead with a cardigan of the same color as the tights helped tie the outfit together.

I also wanted to call this post, "and a wild outfit post appeared!" because it's been two weeks since my last outfit post (not including my Halloween costume). But I'll start having more frequent outfit posts now that I'm working again which I'm so excited for. The ratio between wearing nice clothes and my pj's will be shifting now.

For this month's Everybody, Everywear it was all about the D.I.Y. and mine happens to be my necklace, one of the many things I have made over the summer. My whole room is one big craft corner right now with the current project being my Halloween costume. It's turning out really good so far, so I can't wait to get finished and show it to everyone. 

It's also the first time in a week that I wore something that wasn't an t-shirt and pj shorts. I tried doing the dress nice even if you are staying at home thing but in reality, I would much rather stay in my pjs all day than don fancier things. Especially if I'm going to be at home all day.  Let's just hope I'll something secured up during the holiday season where I don't look like I've been wearing the same geeky tee for the past 4 days.

It's that time again, Everybody Everywear and this time around it's colored/pants and jeans. It doesn't look like it in the pictures, but my jeans are a purplish/navy color. 


When I wear pants or jeans, I usually go the basic color route. This season, I'm going to try to inject more color onto my legs. Still on the hunt for the perfect red pants though. Actually when I bought these jeans 3-4 years ago, they had it in red. But I didn't buy them and I'm still kicking myself over that. 

Also tomorrow is my first day volunteering for the Temecula Valley International Film Festival. Very excited about that! I'm hoping to watch a lot of the films that are being presented. So I'll be spending the rest of the week in a dark theater. I'll also be wearing a uniform of white top and black bottom, so look out for some posts on I switch that up.

One trend that I don't do often enough, but probably should is pattern mixing. It feels like such daunting thing to accomplish because you don't want to look like you dressed yourself in the dark. But I think as long as the pieces still tie in together, it can be a fun way to create new combinations in your closet. 

Take this skirt for example. It has a thin pinstripe print, cute shape and my favorite, pockets. You would think I would wear this all the time but it's been sitting in my closet for the last three years. When I did wear it, it was usually with a solid black top. 

But for this months Everybody, Everywear, which happens to be pattern mixing, I paired it with this red top and brought my skirt it out of closet purgatory. The print is subtle enough that it's not going to clash with top, but it brings out a nice visual instead of the standard, solid on top/print on bottom and vice versa. I'm quite please with the way this outfit came about and it makes me want to explore more of the wonderful world of pattern mixing.

Not only is today a special getting thrifty with it edition of Everybody, Everywhere but also The Paper Doll Project. In honor of being the official day of Comic-con I had my PDP partner, the lovely Kate from Divergent Musings, style this graphic tee. I have to say I love the way it turned out. Even at Comic-con will I don a skirt or dress. When I saw this shirt on TeeFury, I had to get it. Even though it's a Buffy shirt, it also reminds me of Harry Potter because of the crest. There were even some comments on the site where people thought it was Hermione. Also as I was walking outside of the convention, I passed a girl that had the same shirt. Probably one of the few times where I don't feel mortified that someone has the same thing on as me. Before I go any further, click on over to Kate's blog to see how I styled one of her skirts.

As for my Everybody, Everywhere thrifted item, it's my go to black lace belt. I bought a year or so ago from one of those hole in the wall thrift stores. The ones where you really have to dig to find treasures like this. Such an easy but still somewhat fancy looking belt to put on. It's an forever item in my closet.

Finally because I wanted to add even more blue to this outfit, I took one of my fake hair clip-ons and added it to my hair as a braided headband. It may be something not everyone notices, but it's a nice little surprise for those who do.

Well I'm pooped and it's only the first day of Comic-Con. Going to get some much needed sleep. It's only going to get crazier from here!

When I was younger I used to sing that song all the time that I think I learned in preschool. I even put on little performances for my family and relatives. There's probably a video of it floating around my house and but luckily not on the internet. 

Which brings me to this month's Everybody, Everywear pick, yellow. I was looking through my closet to see what items I have in that color, when I found this top buried underneath another top. This was originally a long nightgown/slip when I saw in a thrift store a long time ago. It was 5 years ago at the time where lingerie as outerwear was in, which coincidentally is gaining popularity once again. So do I see cone bras in my future? Eh, probably not.

It's that time of the month again... Everybody, Everywear.  I've had this skirt in my closet for 6 years now and it's one of those items I can't bear to part. Not only is it comfy, hello elastic waist!, but it's something that you can dress up or down. No wonder lace is one of those timeless fabrics.

In other news, if you haven't seen X-Men: First Class yet, what are you doing? I saw it yesterday with my brother and so far next to Bridesmaids, it's one of my favorite movies. I haven't read the comic books and only watched the first two X-Men films but I really liked the story on how the X-Men came to be and the eye candy that was James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Also interesting fact; Taylor Lautner was in talks to play Hank McCoy/Beast but the part went to Nicholas Hoult which I think was a better casting choice. Anyways, I'm about ready to get my nerd on again and go to the first of three Lord of the Rings Directors cut screenings. Anyone else participating in this?

I remember seeing this dress at Charlotte Russe last year and it reminded me of the Spring '09 Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. I like how it's fitted in the top and flows into a poofy a-line. The better to hide food babies. Hehe.

When I first laid my eyes on this dress, I was instantly smitten with it. It has this romantic ethereal quality to it that I usually don't see in maxi dresses that are not going to cost me half of my paycheck. Then I tired it on and pictured myself running in a field of wildflowers with the Lisbon sisters or playing the piano forte under the watchful eye of Mr. Darcy. This dress can work for so many things. 

Since I'm wearing this to work, I added to the jacket to give it a relaxed vibe. Oh and just to be a little silly, I added these cat pins I got from the dollar bin at Target. Aren't they cute? I was also originally going to go all fancy and take pictures on a grassy field. But I didn't have enough time, so my usual picture taking spot will have to do.
