Lines of Color

When you look at this, you might think it's modern artwork by a up-and-coming artist. But what if I told you it was actually the frames from all seven Harry Potter films compressed? This comes from Movie Barcode and while the concept is not new, it's still a cool effect to see how the color progresses in a film or even see the various shades of a favorite directors color (such as Alfonso Cuarón).

Here are some of my favorite Movie Barcodes and you can get most of them as prints on their RedBubble site.

I love that you can see where the dream
sequence takes place.

Sunday Videos: My Huckleberry Friend

Fifty years ago on October 5, one of the most iconic films debut on the silver screen, Breakfast at Tiffany's starring one of the most iconic actresses, Audrey Hepburn. I still remember watching it in my film class in high school and instantly being mesmerized by it.

It's a movie that I've probably watched 20+ times since. Not only did I dress up as Holly Golightly for one Halloween, when I made my first trip to NYC, I spent an entire day looking for her apartment in the film, which I did find on a quiet street in upper Manhattan.

Breakfast at Tiffany's one of those movies that captures 60's Manhattan so beautifully.

Sunday Videos: The Happiest Musical Ever Made

 Astaire! Garland! Miller!
They sure don't make musicals like this anymore.

Pick Me Ups

You know when you're having one of those days where things are a crap shoot and you just need something to make you feel better?

Well here's my list:

  • Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie
Next to cupcakes, brownies are my next favorite dessert. What else goes good with brownies? Ice cream of course. The perfect pairing and my go to ice cream for days like this.

  • Old Movie Musicals

What a better way to lift your spirts than to watch those grand MGM musicals. One of my favorites is Singing in the Rain. I've watched it 20 times already. Plus tap dancing always makes me smile.
Watch one of my many favorite scenes here.

  • Silly But Awesome Videos

Like this...

*Psst: When this song comes on either at home or in the car, I like to dance like a spazz. Well in the car it's more like a head bop.

  •  Ferris Bueller's Day Off

In reality, he would be brushed off as a slacker. But in the land of John Hughes, he's the high school anti-hero.
His "joie de vivre" reminds you that even on your worst day, there's still a better one at the end of the tunnel.
He did also provide what I think is one of the best movie quotes:

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

What's on your feel good list?

Looking Forward: November...

Last month I ended up not going to the Dr.Horrible/Guild screening and I still haven't watched Where the Wild Things Are (although I will finally watch it on Thursday), which is a giant fail on my part.
But hopefully I'll get to cross off everything from my must see list this month:

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Yet another children's book-turned-movie this time from Rushmore director Wes Anderson. Based on the book by Rolad Dahl. I like how he's using stop-motion-animation. It has this classic feel to it, like something you could have watched when you were 6 years old.

Season 3 Finale of Mad Men

Can't believe the season finale is on Sunday already. It's just one of those shows that's all around well-written, acted and directed. Not to mention the costuming and set design. Still need to catch up on the last two episodes before then.

The Guild
Before this, I have never watched a web-series in my life. Usually when I think that the only reason why they are on the web is because they wouldn't be good enough on TV. This series changed my mind. I think it's one of the funniest web-series out there, even if it's the only one I really watch. You don't have to be some serious gamer to watch it, cause believe me, I'm not. But if you want 8 min great witty writing, you should check it out.I'm kinda that there's only three more episodes left this season.

Their Special Halloween Episode

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
I'm putting this last, cause I know most people in the bloggsphere and (everywhere in general) is getting tired of all this Twilight/New Moon talk and I can understand. The hype is everywhere and it can get taxing at times. Seriously, do they need to show a new clip of the movie everyweek? Minus well show the whole movie now. But it's a cheestastic love story and who doesn't love cheese every now and then? I'll be one those at the midnight showing come November 20, and yes I bought my tickets over a month ago. :P

Music video for Death Cab for Cutie's - "Meet Me on the Equinox"
The soundtrack is pretty good. Basically an intro to indie music for tweens. LOL.

What are on your must see lists this month?

Dance with me...

I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a ballerina, or at least dress the part. Their outfits were exquisite and not only did they have grace and poise, but strength as well. I was reminded of my ballet dreams when I happen to come across The Red Shoes on TMC earlier today.

Based upon the tale by Hans Christian Andersen, the movie is about a young ballerina Victoria Page (Moira Shearer) who is torn between Boris Lermontov, (Anton Walbrook) her charismatic ballet impressario and Julian Craster (Marius Goring), the composer of "The Red Shoes." Directed by Michael Powell, it's a visually stunning film, espcially during the The Red Shoes ballet sequence.
There's a great review of the film by Matthew Dessem of The Criterion Contraption. The movie also inspired me to create this outfit on Polyvore:
