Food in the City

Back home after spending 5 days in NYC and I miss it already. The first time I visited I thought it's nice but I wouldn't want to live there. However on my second visit, my opinion has been swayed. The energy of the city is infections and it would be awesome if I could live here for a few years. One thing that I enjoyed about New York was the food. It's a good thing I did a lot of walking while I was there.
Of course I had to take some pictures of the awesome places we ate.

After spending 5 hours on a plane with only a muffin and coffee for breakfast and Dr. Pepper for a snack, (I was not going to spend $6 on a measly airplane sandwich) I was so happy that my sis and her bf took us to this Thai restaurant which was a couple of blocks from their apartment. Not only was the food good, but the decor of the restaurant was really nice. I liked their rope pendant light fixtures.

My mom ordered the Pad Thai and my sisters bf ordered the green curry chicken, but the picture I took turned out a little blurry.

My "dessert" Lychee on ice

We went to the Rockefeller location of the Tom Colicchio founded sandwich chain. Right now to celebrate their 8th anniversary, they have a $8 special on selected sandwiches that also included a drink and sandwich cookie. I had their Slow Roasted Berkshire Pork with red cabbage, jalapenos and mustard on a ciabatta roll. If you need a way to clear up your sinuses, this sandwich is it. It packs enough heat that you might be grabbing your drink every 2 bites. I also recommend getting their peanut butter sandwich cookies. It's melt in your mouth good.

I've heard things about Shake Shack on various food blogs so I had to make a stop and try their burgers out. While they won't replace my beloved In-N-Out as my favorite burger it certainly wasn't some rinky dink burger. The burger was cooked a nice medium well and their potato bun had a hit of sweetness to it. The fries were ok. They were a little too crispy for my taste. I also had their frozen  custard of the day, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel. Even though the pretzels were soggy and didn't add much to it, the creamy mixture of the peanut butter and chocolate was really good.

A trip to NYC wouldn't be complete without going to at least one cupcake shop and for this trip I went to Butter Lane located in the East Village. I first heard about the cupcake shop from a segment on Food Network show The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Then a few weeks later I saw a Groupon for the shop, and decided to purchase it. I don't know if it's the best cupcake I ever ate, but it was certainly declious. The frosting was the best part because you can taste the flavor of that frosting but it's also not saccharine sweet. No wonder they also sell frosting shots.

Other food places I recommend:
  • Yuca Bar - Located a few steps away from Butter Lane, this Latin fusion restaurant has an amazing Sunday brunch prix-fix menu.
  • Paris Baguette - Cute French bakery chain from Korea. They have a location in Midtown. While I was getting a link to their site I found out that they have locations in Southern California. Sweet!
  • De Mole - Surprisingly good Mexican food. I had their nachos, loved their guac, and my mom shared half of her chicken burrito with me. Located in Woodside, we had our food delivered to the apartment.
There are so many other places that I didn't get to try; Rice to Riches, Doughnut Plant and Mile End to name a few.
Guess another trip to NYC is in order!
