To Tommy, From Zooey

Zooey Deschanel has always been a girl/style crush of mine for as long as I can remember. She was the subject of my first ever blog post and I have written about her numerous times since. I just love her girly/60s style, her amazing singing voice, and she has the best hair. Overall, I want to be her BFF (along with Mindy Kaling, Tina Fey, and Amy Poheler but that's a whole other post).

So when I found out that she collaborated with Tommy Hilfiger to create a capsule creation, I had to check it out and naturally I love it!

Full of vintage charm, they are items you might discover at a thrift shop, but only after hours of rifling through the racks. They also carry Hilfiger's preppy all-American aesthetic with use of red, white, and blue. The collection hits Macy's stores on April 14 and on April 21, the entire line will be on the Tommy Hilfiger site.

Ok, so maybe I'll never be BFFs with Zooey but at least I can say I have a dress that was designed by her.

I Could've Been Your Girl

The video for "I Could've Been Your Girl" by She & Him, directed by Zooey Deschanel, came out yesterday and what can I say but like all their other videos, adorable.

Zooey Deschanel in Allure Magazine

When I saw this over at Refinery29, I knew I had to post it here. Zooey is February's Allure cover girl and I love (as described in the video below) the 60's chorus girl meets Natalie Wood in Gypsy and Shirley Maclaine in Sweet Charity. The issue hits newsstands on the 24th.

I have major Zooey hair envy. I wish my hair looked like that everyday.

New Girl

This week Upfronts are being held in NYC where the big Networks present their new fall schedules in order to incite advertisers. Today Fox had their upfront and one of the new shows that I'm excited to watch is "New Girl." Created by Liz Meriwether (No Strings Attached) and starring none other than blogger favorite Zooey Deschanel, it's about a teacher who finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her.  She then moves out their apartment and moves in with three guys. The first look trailer looks promising maybe because Zooey is so freaking adorable, so I hope it lives up to it's premise.

Copycat... I Mean Copies

Dwight: [about the Scranton Strangler standoff] Ugh, they shouldn't televise this. It only encourages copycats.
Angela: Just say "Copies." Why do you have to drag cats into this?

I recently was perusing the 2011 Resort collection on Style.com
when I came across this look from Rebecca Taylor.

Much like the J.Crew outfit I recreated during the 30x30 challenge,
I did the same with the outfit above and got this...

Striped Sweater: Old Navy
Dress (worn as a skirt): Gap
Bow Bracelet (which is now missing *tear*): H&M
Black Mini-Wedges: Payless

Mine looks a little more girly with the longer hemline and wedges. But add some boots, a shorter hemline and maybe a leather jacket and it can have the downtown cool look.

I love the feeling when I'm able to recreate looks I like with the stuff that's already in my closet. Score!
Also I know this another work break room shot, but hopefully I'll get an outdoor shot in soon. Although the pictures are a little dark, at least the lighting is 100% better than in my room which casts a yellowish tone. Plus I still haven't been caught yet. I have the mental sign in my head much like the no accidents in such and such days. Mine would say three outfits with no embarrassing moments!

As you can probably tell, I'm in the process of re-doing my blog. It's about time my blog needed some freshening up. So in the next 2 weeks, I'll be looking up HTML codes figuring out how to make my blog as awesome as the ones I read on a daily basis. Oh and I'll have an new blog header which is going to look really awesome.

You know what else is awesome?
The new She & Him video for "Don't Look Back." I love the intro to the video, like one of those 60's informational videos. Plus Zooey is cute, as usual.
I also want to learn the dance at the end. :P

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Saw these two videos via a Facebook post from my sisters friend and I had to post it.
Some singers over sing these two sports staples all the time. But some times, the best renditions are simple which makes it even more beautiful.

In The Sun

For the most part, I usually decide what I'm going to wear that day. It can take me 15 min to even an hour figuring out what I'm going to wear. But Sometimes, you'll see an outfit on someone that you want to recreate for yourself.

The outfit in question is Zooey Deschanel's for the She & Him video for "In the Sun."

I just like the simplicity of it but still has that school girl charm. After all, the video is set in a school.

After going through my closet, I found some items that have the same feel to hers.
Skirt and Top: Old Navy
Black Belt: Thrifted
Necklace: American Eagle
Watch: Target (didn't wear it in the video, but I needed to for work.)

I liked the way it turned out. The only thing I would change is to make the top more fitted. I had to keep adjusting it. I also didn't wear tights. I would die wearing them in the 80 degree weather. So I opted for some black opened-toe shoes that you can't see in the picture.

Have you ever recreated an outfit that you saw on someone?

Cuteness Overload

The new video for She & Him's "In The Sun" is out and it's so adorable. It reminds me of the video she did with Joseph Gordon Levitt for "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?." But this time around she's trying to impress a disinterested M.Ward with her dancing skills. Add background dancers, a school setting, and hula hoops and you have one really cute video. I just love her dress in the end of the video!

In a Little While...

I remember watching this when it first aired a few years ago and it has me thinking, Zooey should totally guest star on Glee.

In the Sun...

I can't go a month without posting something about Zooey Deschanel because she's just the bee's knees. :P

Today is no exception. There's a new She & Him song out called "In the Sun" from their album appropriately titled, Volume 2, coming out on March 23rd.

The perfect song to listen to on this sunny, if slightly cold, day.

Oh Zooey!

''I love old music, old movies, screwball comedies, vintage clothes and basically I'm an old-fashioned gal.''

Today one of my favorite actresses, singers, style icon and overall girl crush was born into the world today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZOOEY!

Go Into Your Dance

It's just another day at your bank job when a cutie in Wayfarers comes up to your station and hands you a note. What you hope will be his digits turns out to be a note stating he wants to rob the bank. Instead of panicking, you decide you'd rather dance with him in the back.
That's the case of this super cute video of Zooey and Joseph. Directed by (500) Days of Summer Marc Webb and set to She & Him's "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?", it has this classic Old Hollywood dance number feel to it. Plus I love Zooey's dress. Will have to find out who makes it. All the more reason I need to make a trip down to San Diego and watch (500) Days of Summer.

Enjoy!

Country Chic

Got the August issue of InStyle in the mail yesterday and as I was flipping through the pages, I came across a cute photo spread of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Although we're halfway through summer, the photos made me want to layer on some fall clothes and run through a wheat field.

I really can't wait for their movie to come out. I almost went to a free screening with my friend last week. But when we got there, they passed out more tickets than what the screen could hold, so we couldn't see watch it. Despite that, I'm still going to make the trek out to Los Angeles or San Diego to watch the movie.

Lazy Sunday...

Changed internet service providers last week, so now I can watch more videos without eating the bandwith. Add having the day off from work and you get a bunch of videos.
Enjoy!

500 Days of Summer

Like many other fashion bloggers, I'm a big fan of Zooey Dechanel and she's been getting a lot of press lately.

From her album with M.Ward being hailed as one of the Best Albums of 2008, to being on the cover of the Febuary issue of Domino, and getting engaged to Ben Gibbard, she has had a really good year. I'll even forgive her for The Happening, because it's not her fault that M. Knight is loosing his touch.

We'll get to see even more Zooey this year. One movie I'm looking forward to seeing her in is 500 Days of Summer. The first feature film from music video director Marc Webb, also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The tag-line of this postmodern love story is "Boy meets girl-Boy falls in love-Girl doesn't" and the movie chronicles Tom (Gordon-Levitt) as he looks back at his past relationship with Summer (Dechanel). Add dance numbers and split screens and you have one quirky but endearing movie. Not your typical rom-com, which suits me just fine.

The movie comes out on July 24. Here's the teaser trailer and you can watch two clips from the movie here.
