Whovian Wednesday: Dress Like The 12th Doctor

On Monday, the BBC released a photo of The Twelfth Doctors (Peter Capaldi) outfit and there's nary a bow tie in sight. As my friend posted on Facebook, it's Classic Who and Eleven's love child. Also as some other Whovians pointed out, it looks like a Teddy Boy from the 1960s. I love the simplicity of it all, but it still has some cool touches, such as the red lining on the jacket. I'm already expecting lots of Twelve's when I go to Wondercon in April. Heck I'll probably see a lot on my Instagram feed during Gallifrey One.
Here's my femme version of his costume.

Since this is the internet, here are some funny pictures and a gif of Twelve in his new outfit.
What do you think of his new threads?

Whovian Week: Makeup Tutorial Me

In the past month, I've started to watch beauty vloggers and pay more attention to my daily beauty/makeup routine. So I decided to type up "Doctor Who Makeup Tutorials" and boy did I find a lot! I think it's great that there's not only tutorials on how to do your make up like The Ood or a Weeping Angel, but also for Amy, Rose, Clara, and even Sarah Jane. Here are a few I found on the interwebs.

She has also done makeup tutorials for all of the companions. It's pretty cool.

Also if you're looking for some fantastic looking Doctor Who inspired nail polishes, look no further than Etsy. Here are some of my favorites. Click on the picture to go to their Etsy store.

Awesome brand Her Universe is going to release special Doctor Who 50th Anniversary merchandise right after the special airs. Also, this cardigan will make it's debut on Black Friday. Shut up and take my money! via When Nerds Attack

An Adventure in Space and Time is airing on BBC 2 tonight, but we'll get to see it tomorrow on BBC America. For now here's a clip with David Bradley as William Hartnell, Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert, and Sacha Dhawan as Waris Hussein.

Finally here are pictures of current and former Doctor Who stars arriving at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 50th. Also that wax figure of Matt Smith as Eleven is kinda creepy.

Whovian Week: Dress Like the Classic Doctors: Part Two

Round two of my Classic Doctor Who outfits. Like I said previously, recreating the Sixth's outfit was a little challenging because of his crazy colorful coat. So I decided to pull colors from the coat and create a sort of punk outfit out of it. Speaking of the Classic Doctors, it makes me very excited to hear that some of are going to, or already have, be a part of the 50th Anniversary after all!

Whovian Week: Dress Like the Classic Doctors: Part One

Two years ago, I created outfits inspired by Nine, Ten, and Eleven. For the 50th Anniversay, how about I go even further and tackle Doctors One through Eight. I'm doing this in two parts, so today it will be One to Four and tomorrow Five to Eight. Just thinking how I'm going to create an outfit from the Sixth Doctor is getting my creative juices flowing.

Since there were not a lot of pictures of Three in Polyvore, I used this picture as inspiration for the outfit.

Whovian Week: The Night of the Doctor

A few days ago, The BBC debut a prequel short "The Night of the Doctor" and to my (and basically every ones surprise) it served as how the Eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann, went through his regeneration process. It was unfortunate that he only got to play the Doctor on screen for one TV movie on Fox (although he has done plenty of radio programs as Eight). Imagine if an episode of Rosanne didn't clobber them in the ratings and it became an "Americanized" show. I honestly don't think it would be the same. Anyways, I've lost count on how many times I've watched it. There's  the finality with the Eight Doctors regeneration, but there are still some questions such as how does John Hurt as the "War Doctor" bridge the gap between Eight and Nine and more over, will we ever see Christopher Eccelston make an appearance. The latter will be highly unlikely given how vocal he is about his not so great experence while working on Doctor Who. But you never know, the Doctor does lie after all.

Then there's this clip, shown during BBC's Children in Need Special. Here Eleven and Clara are reunited with Kate Stewart aka, The Briagdier's Daughter, a high ranking member of UNIT. They are at a museum, investigating the mysterious disappearance of figures in some paintings. As he starts figuring out what the cause is, a portal pops ups all of a sudden and of course he throws the fez in before himself. Who happens to pick up the fez and put it on right away? Ten of course. The look on there faces when they discover each other is priceless and it make me even more giddy with excitement for the 50th episode.

Whovian Week: 50th Doctor Who Party

In honor of The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who this Saturday, I'll be posting all things Whovian this week!

After months of waiting, the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who is only 6 days away. EEP!
While some of us will be watching the 3D simulcast of the episode in select theaters, a majority of us will be watching it in the comfort of our homes.
So what better way to watch is than to gather some of your favorite fellow Whovians and have a party.

Here are some ideas for the most fantastic Doctor Who party.

Food

No party is complete without food and here are some fun suggestions.

Click below for the recipes:

Drinks

Sometimes we need a drink (or two) before we start dancing like a drunken Giraffe.

Sonic Screwdriver Drink Recipe from Dash and a Pinch

Games

For adult parties, there's always the DW Drinking Game. But there are some really good fun family games too.

Guess the Character

All you need is some index cards or paper. Write the name of a DW character and pin it to the back of your guests as they arrive. During the party, everyone will try to guess who they are but only by characteristics/personalities.

Costume Contest

You can't have a DW party without everyone coming in costume. Have different categories, such as Most Creative, Best Doctor and Companion, and Best Villain.

For more creative games, you should check out the Doodle Craft blog. So many fun ideas! Pin the Face on Cassandra is my favorite.

Decor

If you're looking for some cute Doctor Who fabric for a tablecloth or photo booth backdrop, you should definitely check out Spoonflower and the plethora of artist made fabric. If that's out of your budget, there's also some awesome fabric choices too.

I might have to go to my local JoAnn's and get this fabric for myself.
With stores stocked with holiday decorations, there's bound to be enough silver star garland to use with your hearts content.

Oh and don't forget your Standee!

Who wouldn't want a Ten standee at their party... or room. Ehehe.
Do you plan on having a Doctor Who viewing party?

Last Minute Fandom Costume Ideas

Standing in front of your closet figuring out what to wear for your Halloween? Here's some ideas for some cool, mostly fandom related costumes.

The last time I did a Taylor Swift outfit, it was all about sequin dresses and cowboy boots. This time around, Taylor has been sporting high waisted shorts and oxfords, but she still goes for the sparkles. Put on your favorite red lipstick and keep a journal (or little black book) with you as you head out to the weekend costume parties.

There are so many feels in this costume. Try to keep Ten by your side or if you're going by yourself, smudge your eye make up a bit and start talking to people on how you need to back to the parallel world with the Doctor. Bonus points if you have the dimension jumping device on your neck.

Mako, one of my favorite charaters from my favorite movie of this year, Pacifc Rim. Prove to your adopted father that you can kick ass and pilot a jager with one of the most thoughtful heroic man you have met.

If you go on Tumblr as much as I do, there are a lot of posts about Nightvale, the twice monthly podcast that is a blend of The Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks. Channel the host of Nightvale Radio Cecil Baldwin. Don't forget the arm tattoos and third eye.

Comic Con 2013: Best Con Ever!

FYI: This post is picture heavy!

Also I was working on this post but I got so busy with family things, (such as my sister getting married!) that this has been sitting in my draft box for the longest time.

Last week was my favorite time of the summer, San Diego Comic-Con, or SDCC for short. This is my fourth year going and I almost didn't go. But I thought to myself, it's only an hour drive and I would kick myself for not going at least one day. Off I went on Saturday and I'm so glad I did because I had the best time ever.

I also didn't plan on dressing up until I realized that I had almost everything in my closet to be a femme Eleventh Doctor. I ended up making the mini fez, faux suspenders out of ribbon, and of course the bow tie because we all know by now that "bow ties are cool." I brought the TARDIS bag I made a couple of years ago to tie the outfit together and I bought my Sonic Screwdriver on the exhibit floor that day.

Having volunteered on preview night, I had the entire Saturday free which was a good thing. Tip: since it's getting harder every year to purchase tickets, go the volunteer route. In exchange for a free pass, you volunteer for three hours and it can be for anything. From line management (from what I heard is the worst) to working in the offices. The only downside is if there's a popular panel you really want to go to that day, you might not get to go to it depending when your shift is scheduled. The best thing to do is to get in line early so you can pick a time that won't conflict with things you want to see. I felt like this year the volunteer route wasn't advertised at much on the SDCC site so when I find out when volunteering for next year opens, I will post it here.

Write Bad Wolf in all the blank spaces!
The exhibit hall opened at 9am and I spent a good two hours walking the floor and at the same time participating in the Adventure Time text challenge. I had to make my way towards various booths in the hall and text the Adventure Time related phrases posted in the booth. When I was done with the challenge, I got an Ice King medal. This go perfectly with the Finn medal I got last year and maybe I can make an over the top necklace with it.

Pacific Rim figures from Sideshow Collectibles. I want them all!!!

After walking around the con floor, I started heading towards Block No. 16 where the BCC America/Tumblr Doctor Who Meet Up. The line up was supposed to start at Noon, but when I got there, a line going two blocks from the venue already formed. I didn't think I would get in. But after a two hour wait and armed with an BBC America Doctor Who wristband, I got it and it was so much fun. I chatted with fellow Whovians, had some really great food, and of course get fangirly when the likes of Mark Gatiss, John Hurt, Jenna Coleman, show runner Steven Moffat, and of course the departing Doctor, Matt Smith. I'll be honest, I teared up when Matt and Jenna came on stage. It was the closest I will probably ever get to them. This pales in comparison when I went to The Nerdist live show two years ago and didn't fangirl over Matt and Karen Gillian's appearance. It was B.D.W., before Doctor Who.

While waiting in line for the Doctor Who party, I spotted these boxes of souffle cups.
It's a sign from Clara/Oswin.

Awesome Capt. Jack Harkness cosplay. He even came with cheeky sexual innuendos.

$2 beer and margaritas? Yes please!

The Bad Wolf: Sprite with bubble gum syrup and soda water

Moffat! Jenna and Matt

I  really wanted to steal this and take it home with me.

Such an adorable pregnant Amy and Rory

Later that night I met up with my friend Erica and her friend Jess to partake in some Gaslamp fun. We first went to the Geek and Sundry fan party to get our dance on then we headed over to Petco Park to Nerd HQ because Erica told me the night before, they had a big fan party. But when we got there, the dance area was blocked off for the celebrity party. Boo. But at least the music was thumping we could still dance until the wee hours. More like 1pm when everyone had to leave. Instead of leaving though, we hung out in front of the Nerd HQ entrance to possibly get a picture with our favorite actors and we did. Erica got her picture with David Giuntoli from Grimm, Jess got hers with Drew Roy from Falling Skies, and I got mine with Rob Kazinsky from Pacific Rim and True Blood. I think we all had varying degrees of fangirling, but I might have been the worst. Hahaha. I didn't cry or anything, but I remember telling Rob I saw Pacific Rim twice and flashed twos on both hands. Excuse me while I embarrass the heck out of myself. Afterwards we were going to wait in line for the Doctor Who panel on Sunday, but the line was crazy ridiculous. The end of it was a good 5-8 miles away from Hall H, so we ended up crashing at friends house.

Overall, I had the best Comic Con experience and that was only one day. Next year I'm definitely going to go all four days. I also have another con to look forward to in November, Comikaze! I already have my cosplay outfits planned out, I just have to start making them.

Channeled Eleven in the photo booth at the Geek and Sundry fan party.

We met David Arquette at Nerd HQ,
but moved his head when this was taken.

Fangirling in process!
