Friend Friday: Ayo Technology

This weeks FBFF questions courtesy of Katy

1. What technology do you use in blogging? (computer, camera, video
camera, tripod, etc...)

To take pictures I use a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S750. I upload them on a 6 year old Dell (!) computer that used to be my sisters. As for tripods, I use my dad's that he's had since he did photography in the 80's. I also use one of those Gorilla style tripods, which I love because of it's portability. I can easily put it in my purse.

2. What computer and online technology do you use? (blogging system,
photo storage, photo editing tools, etc..)

I'm a blogger/blogspot girl. I know there are a lot of bloggers with their own  web-domains. I don't know if I'm ready for that yet, but I'll probably look into it. I also use blogger to store all my photos. I have a Flickr account, but I'm going to upgrade it for more picture storage. As for photo editing tools, I use Picnik.com. I'm not too keen on Photoshop, and the site makes it super easy for me to edit pictures.

3. What is your process for taking pictures?

My camera doesn't come with a wireless remote, continuous shots or a husband/boyfriend, so I take them myself with the 10-second timer.  It's not too bad, I just have to make a mental note where the picture is centered on the screen so I can hit that same make when I take a picture. I try to take my pictures in the natural light in an area that is slightly shaded. I don't like really like taking indoor pictures in my room cause the lighting sucks, so I try take them before I go to work. But if not I'll take it in my works break room during my lunch. This is where my portable tripod comes in handy. Usually I'll take about 20-30 shots and the picture taking session lasts around 5-10 minutes depending where I'm taking them at. If it's in my backyard, it'll take a little bit longer because my dogs love to photobomb my pictures.

4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Do
you scout locations or shoot the same spot daily?

I'm lucky to have photo spots in my front and backyard to take pictures, so I don't have to travel far to take pictures. I hoping this year though I'll let my anxiety of taking outfit pictures in public places by myself go away. There are some pretty cool places to take pictures in my mid-sized town and I want to be able to capture them. Of course I will have these safety tips in mind courtesy of JoAnn's blog.

5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would
you be buying?

I would love to get a new SLR camera. Mine is two years old and the age is showing. Also when I was taking pictures in my backyard a few months ago, one of my dogs knocked over my tripod and the camera landed on it's lens and bent it. Now when I try to turn on my camera, it takes a few tries and some slight tapping for the lens to open. Another splurge that will be sooner than later is a MacBook Pro. I was supposed to get it last month, but it looks like I will be getting it in February. My sisters computer is running on it's last leg. Just two weeks ago, the hard drive crashed and my brother had to fix it. Thank goodness I saved everything on an external hard drive. That would have been the worst.
