It's Raining on Prom Night

Prom has been on my mind lately. Mostly because I've been hearing about it from cousins, and co-workers whose kids were going and that my brother recently took some prom pictures for his friends. So it had me thinking of my own prom, so many years ago.

The theme for my prom was "Waiting for Tonight," why yes from the Jennifer Lopez song, and I remember it being at this business center in Orange County. I remember getting my dress at Charlotte Russe. It was a bright pink spaghetti strapped top with light pink quarter-sequin trim on the bottom of the top with an a-line full skirt. Once I got my dress, I crossed my fingers hoping that no other girls would wear the same dress. Luckily no one did. Couldn't say the same to five girls that wore the same style dress, in different colors.

On prom day, I went to the JC Penny hair salon to get an up-do. I think it the stylist a hour to curl and pile my hair up with a big a dose of hairspray. I then went to my friends house to meet everyone.

You can't miss me in my bright pink dress.

We were all dressed to the nines. At the time, the last time I saw guys in tuxes was in a wedding. All the girls were in their long gowns. I remember it was the norm to wear a long gown to prom. If I went to the prom now, I might wear a shorter gown. After pictures, we piled into the limo, which was nice and fancy and made our trek to prom.

My balloon dog from El Torrito. Check out the shellacked hair and my make-up doesn't quite match my neck.

With my friend Laura

To me prom was fun. It was time to really get dressed up, dance, and eat finger food.
I didn't do any of the crazy after parties. I went back in the limo and it stopped at my friends house, where my mom was there to pick me up.
It was fun times indeed.

I may not be Lane Kim, with her two filled to the brim bags of prom photos, but I know I have more somewhere in my room.
If I find them, I'll add them to this post.
Hmmm.... I think I have my prom dress stuffed in the back of my closet. :P

Hey There Shortcake!

As a child of the 80's I grew up with Care Bares, Cabbage Patch Kids, Rainbow Brite, and Jem.
Another one of my faves was Strawberry Shortcake. With her mop of red hair and green and white striped tights I was a big fan of hers.
As evidenced of my bedding when I was 2.

So I liked how one of my favorite magazines, Lula, has re-imagined Strawberry Shortcake and her friends.

I've been searching online for more scans of the new issue and
I can't wait for it to come out in the U.S.
