Friend Friday: The Anatomy of an Outfit

Sweater and Red Wool Blazer: Old Navy
Lace Skirt: Target
Necklace: Forever 21
Gray Tights: Old Navy
Gray Boots: Reflections

I wore this yesterday to go watch Tron: Legacy (again) with my brothers and my mom. This time though we went to Edwards Theaters at Ontario Mills to watch it on the giant IMAX screen and boy was the screen giant. It took up the whole wall and with the slope of the seating so high,  the movie basically wraps around you. Now I wished I watched Inception showing there, but I'm definitely going to watch the last Harry Potter movie there when it comes out in July. As for Tron: Legacy, I enjoyed it. I loved the disc game and grid scenes and I kinda wished there was more of it. Plus who wouldn't want a motorcycle that magically appears from a baton looking object. As for the music, Daft Punk rocks. Of course it's not a 100% representation of them, they are composing for a film after all, but you can still hear their style. Of course they would make a cameo in the movie. They totally fit in with the helmets they wear when they perform in concert. Anyways, I recommend the movie and if you still haven't watched the original Tron, you should.

It's also Friend Friday and this weeks topic, courtesy of Katy, is outfit planning.

1. How do you determine what you will wear that day?
It depends on what I feel like wearing that day. Or if there's a particular piece I want to wear. Sometimes I try to base it on the weather but I usually don't and that can get me in trouble sometimes. Lightweight skirts and dresses are never good on windy days, but I always end up in an outfit involving that type of item. My hands are constantly by my side so I don't pull a Marilyn in the middle of the parking lot or outdoor mall.

2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month,
weekend?
While I never plan my outfits that far in advance. Sometimes I'll have an idea for an outfit which I might remember in a week or so. But that flies out the window when it come to special events. For my high school reunion last September, I had my outfit already picked out a month before.

3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already
worn so you don't repeat?
I don't really don't mind if I repeat an outfit especially if I felt really good wearing it that day. Sometimes I'll even wear the same outfit twice in a week. Like the one I posted above. But of course not to the same destination.

4. How do you discover new combinations of items in your closet?
(Trial try-ons?  Hanging items together?)
For me I have to try things on which can lead to clothes all over the place. But it's the best way for me to determine if pieces work together or not. Sometimes just placing the items on a hanger doesn't really show you exactly where a jacket hemline is going to land or if the sleeves will not bulge under sweater sleeves.
5. To streamline the process for 2011 what is one new thing you can do
to cut down your dressing time?
One thing I'm trying to do right now is cleaning my closet. The less I have, the easier it will be to pick out outfits. I'm also getting into buying more basics that will work with more items in my closet. I'm currently on the hunt for a great gray and navy blazer that I'll be able to pair with dresses, jeans, skirts, etc.

Ah, the old closet clean out. I did clean mine over vacation and so far it is still in order. It really does help with the whole getting dressed process. Of course, we are only two weeks into the year...we'll see how long this lasts.
