Dress to Impress

As I mentioned before my 10 year high school reunion is coming up, in a week and half to be exact. I still trying to find the right dress and of course it's cocktail attire (dress to impress). I thought I did when I saw this gorgeous red dress during Gilts super sale a few weeks ago. It was only $50 and I bought it hoping it would work out. Unfortunately it didn't and I know I'm back at square one. Or so I thought.

I was going through my closet earlier today and found this...

I bought it last year during a Macy's super sale and had it hidden in back corner of my closet waiting for the right time to wear it. The thing is, it's really long and a little too dressy for a high school reunion, but I was thinking of getting it shortened, to right above the knee. It looks like an easy fix, with the right tailor.
However, I'm wondering if I should shorten it, or leave it long and keep looking for another dress.

It's such a pretty color! I think shortening it would be good. Then it is not so dressy and you can use it for the reunion! And then you don't have to buy a new dress.

It is a pretty color! I'd have a hard time seeing all that length cut away, but I'm sure it would be a quick and easy fix if you need something pronto! Have you checked out Lulu's recently? They have a lot of cute cocktail-ish dresses online.

I think it may be too formal, if you were to cut it above the knee i think it would look great!

Also is that chain near the neckline removable? I think it look better if you removed that and played with some fun accessories :)
