The Star Wars convention? I'm sorry. Her top was off. You couldn't have at least said X-Men for me?

I had to start off with one of the many memorable quotes from my favorite comic-book reading, game playing, pop culture geek, Seth Cohen of The O.C. It was actually from the show that Comic-Con was put on my pop culture radar. My sister and I actually planned going to Comic-Con in 2004 so we can go to The Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow panel. We were both in love with Jude Law at the time. :P However it fell around the time our family was moving, so we ended up not being able to go.
Fast forward 6 years later and I finally experienced my first Comic-Con. I have to say it was awesome. I met a lot of people and the convention center and downtown was just filled with energy. There's so much to say that I hope I don't leave anything out!
Although it was fun, there were a lot of things I learned as a first-timer at Comic-Con and I'll mention them throughout my posts.

But to kick things off...

Comic-Con Lesson #1: The panel schedule you made? It's gonna change.

A couple of weeks before Comic-Con, I would study each days schedule and plan out what I was going to see. I made sure that there was enough time to make it to the next panel and I had it all jotted down on my iPod Touch. But when Thursday rolled around, I knew I was screwed. Not only did I wake up late, but I was stuck in traffic on the way down to San Diego. By the time I made it to the convention center, it was already 10:30am and I had just missed the Megamind panel and I was not going to get into the Tron panel just from looking at the line to Hall H, which extened outside.

Line for Hall H

So instead, I went to Starbucks and saw that there was a Clash of the Titans event outside. Turns out there were 5 different stations and if you completed each station you would get a cardboard shield. I wasn't that interested in getting the shield. But I saw that there was a rock climbing wall on one of the stations and I decided to go for it.

I almost made it to the top but I wasn't wearing the proper shoes; opened toe flats are not really made for rock climbing. I was proud of myself for doing it, at Comic-Con at all places, and I was out of breath and a little shaky. But at least I didn't pass out. :P

After my harrowing experience, I went ahead to the line for Hall H so I can hopefully get into Entertainment Weekly's: The Visionaries Panel featuring J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon. After waiting for two hours, I was finally able to get into Hall H and I have to say the place is massive.
I sat through the Red panel, a movie about ex-CIA agents and starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Mary Louise Parker, and Karl Urban. Willis, Mirren, Parker and Urban were at the panel. I have to say Bruce has a really shiny head and I like how Helen wore a shirt honoring the late comic book writer, Harvey Pekar, who passed away 10 days earlier. I don't know if I would go to the theaters to watch it, but I might rent it just to see Helen wield a gun.

Finally it was The Visionaries panel and I have to say it was good first panel to go to. Some things from the panel:
  • Back in college, Abrams and one of his friends were paid $300 to restore some of Steven Spielberg's original movies he shot as a budding young filmmaker.
  • After rumors that where circulating for awhile, Whedon confirmed that he was going to direct the Avengers movie. The entire cast was announced at the Marvel panel on Saturday.
  • Abrams is going to start filming Super-8 in September. He's collaborating with Spielberg on the film.
  • Whedon really, really loved Abrams Star Trek re-boot. He said; "This is the gold standard for a team movie, for a summer movie, for any movie that has come out in the last several years.’ And it makes me throw up with fear, so I have to stop watching it.”
After the panel, I went back to the exhibition hall to meet up with a friend. While I was waiting for her, I made my way over to The Guild booth. I tried to find it on preview night, but I forgot the booth number. Well this time I found it and I happened to be get there when there was a signing. I totally turned into a fangirl at that moment. I love watching the web-series and to see them all in person was really awesome. I did keep my cool and I actually said complete sentences to them. :P I remember telling the cast how much I liked the show and although I'm not really a gamer, you can still relate to the characters. I talked to The Guild creator and star Felicia Day for what felt like a minute. I ended up getting a Cheesybeards shirt, and a issue 1 of the Guild comic that the whole cast signed.

I also got a picture with them...

From left to right: Me, Felicia Day (Codex), Robin Thorsen (Clara), Vincent Caso (Bladezz), and Jeff Lewis (Vork)

Well with 4 out of the 6 actors. I probably should have been at the middle of the table so I can get the whole cast, but I know that I will get one with all of them when they come back to Comic-Con next year. :P

I met up with my friend and we walked around the exhibit hall. She's been going for the past 11 years, and she gave me a few pointers such as walking up and down each row so you don't miss anything. I would have just tired to go to the booths on my list, but the other way is easier and less stressful. We talked to a few artists and I have to say there was so much talent. I wish I can draw like the artists we met.

What would Comic-Con be without attendees dressing up? Here are some pictures I took on Thursday...

Judging by the expression on my face, I guess I want him to attack me.

To end the night, my brother and I walked over to the Embarcadero for the Distant Worlds: Final Fantasy concert. It was cool hearing the San Diego Symphony perform music from the Final Fantasy games. Made me want to find the Playstation and Final Fantasy 7 game in my house and start reliving the game I would play for hours at a time back in middle school and high school. My brother bought the concert cd, so on Sunday we listened to that on the way home.
We couldn't take pictures during the concert. In fact, I had to turn in my camera before the concert. So I just have a picture of the venue we saw the concert at.
It was 11pm when my brother and I checked into the hotel room. I was tired but managed to take an outfit picture before I passed out.

Shirt: Old Navy
Shorts: American Eagle
Sandals: Payless
Headband: Forever 21

As I mentioned earlier I woke up later than I wanted to on Thursday. So I had to think really quick what I was going to wear.  Of course I wore my Wonder Woman shirt I got from work and then I pulled out these shorts from my closet. They are so comfy that I can wear it all the time.

As I was walking in the exhibit hall, a guy said he liked my "crown" which I replied thanks. This is the closest I got to dressing up. Maybe next year I'll dress up.

Well that's my recap of Day 2. I'll be posting the rest of my Comic-Con experience soon!
