To be honest when I first saw Kate Nash's music video for "Foundations" on MYX, I changed the channel. I figured she was a Lily Allen clone with the way she cheekily sang about a bum boyfriend set to cheery music. I do like Lily Allen by the way, but as we know when a certain artist becomes popular, similar ones come out of the woodwork.
But as the channel kept playing the video, the song started to grow on me and naturally I checked out more of her music. Kate Nash won me over. While she may be compared to Lily Allen and Regina Spektor, she reminds me of Nellie McKay. Like Nellie, Kate's lyrics and delivery is more of the storytelling variety.
So today her album Made of Bricks finally landed stateside and I have to say, I love it down to the cute pictures in the lyrics booklet. The standout tracks are "We Get On," "Birds," "Pumpkin Soup," and "The Nicest Thing." It's a good breezy album to listen to when your driving or lounging around. Kate's style is adorable. Like she could of stepped off the set of a London set 60's movie.
I present this weeks inspiration de modèle, the lovely Kate Nash.
