"So What Are You Up To?"

Last night was my high school reunion and it was really cool seeing classmates I haven't seen since we graduated. It  was held at the Ponte Winery in the Barrel room and it was a really nice venue. Like the name says the room had barrels lined up against the walls.

From the Ponte web-site.
I went with my friend Ginger. We both were planning on bringing dates.
But that didn't work out, so we were each others date instead. :P

When talking to my old classmates, three questions that constantly popped up were:
  • "Where do you live?"
  • "What are you doing?"
  • "Are you married or single?" (if they say married, proceed to ask how many years and if they have kids.)
I think that's always the awkward part of talking to people you haven't seen in years because you want your life to sound more awesome. But try to embellish it too much and next thing you know, you're telling your classmates that you invented the Post-it. :P
But despite the initial awkwardness, it was great to find out what everyone was up to. I found out that my middle school crush, (our city was so small that almost everyone has know each other since elementary school) is a cop that's married and they have a son. Also another one of my old friends recently went back to our high school to give a talk about her job working for the corners office. Feels like it was only yesterday that we were sitting in the desks listing to adults talking about about their careers.
The only unfortunate thing was that the reunion was way too short. The event was only until 10pm and once that time rolled around, the lights went on and the DJ said it was time to go. Then as I saw groups lingering outside the venue either still catching up with each other or deciding where the after party was going to be, it hit me. It reminded of the way school dances ended in high school. Like whoa.
Unfortunately, I only took two pictures during the reunion.
This is the second one with me, Ginger and our friend Leila.
Ginger and I decided to forgo any after parties since I was her ride and she had to drive back home early the next morning. We opted instead to go to Denny's for some grub . As we waited for our food, a bunch of high schoolers made their way into Denny's. They just came from their homecoming dance. So girls were in their fancy dresses and guys were in their button-up shirts and ties.
Another surreal feeling. It reminded me that while even things may change, somethings will always remain the same.

It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride...

Yesterday I celebrated being another year older and slowly moving away from my twenties. After celebrating with my family two days before, my brother's birthday was also the same week, I hung out with my friend and her family and had a nice little picnic at one of the local wineries.

We had your typical picnic food sandwiches, fruit, chips and dip. But we also had this really good garlic sourdough bread with brie cheese in the middle of it. It was so delicious, we almost ate the whole thing. My friend's sister brought a chocolate cake. Very good too. We washed it all down with Muscat Canelli, a white desert wine.

After our picnic, we went salsa dancing. It was the same place where I went last week. Once again, it was really fun. There was more people there, which is always fun. I think I'm going to start taking Salsa lessons.
