Living in California for most of my life there are things that I really enjoy about living in the Golden State; Disneyland and the close proximity to the beach, and things I really loathe; smog, the 91 FWY, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the current Miss California (opposite marriage, really?)
However if I ever hitched a ride out of California, there would be one thing I would really miss, In-N-Out.

Founded in 1948 by Harry and Esther Synder in Baldwin Park, their philosophy was to serve hamburgers and fries of the highest quality with ingredients that were always fresh, never frozen.
At In-N-Out their menu only consists of a Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Double Double, Fries, and Milkshakes (vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry). So no iced-lattes or salads here, but there is a well known "secret menu" that you can order from.
Yeah it's not entirely healthy, but it's a great treat once in a while. Vegetarian? I would avoid the place altogether.
To get a taste of this California institution if you're not from the area, you'd have to go to their locations out here or in Nevada, Arizona and Utah. But in a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, there have been rumblings amongst the company to make it a national chain.
In-N-Out in the same vein as a McDonald's. I don't think so. If they go national, it will lose the integrity of this small fast food chain. They'll start adding unnecessary items to the menu and it will be like every other fast food restaurant.
