Best of the Best...

I love making lists. Whether it's for things I have to get or tasks that need to be done, lists helps me sort out the clutter in my mind. Perhaps my favorite type is the end of the year best of lists. It's interesting to read what others thought were the best of '08. Here are mine, mostly music related.

Favorite Albums:

Volume One - She & Him

Oracular Spectacular - MGMT Narrow Stairs - Death Cab for Cutie
Only by the Night - Kings of Leon
Lucky - Nada Surf
Made of Bricks - Kate Nash

Vampire Weekend
- Vampire Weekend

Acid Tongue -
Jenny Lewis Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Viva La Vida (And Death to All His Friends) - Coldplay

Modern Guilt - Beck
Day and Age - The Killers
Loyalty to Loyalty - Cold War Kids

Favorite music videos:

"Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" - She & Him

I love how morbidly cute it is, like those old Warner Bros. cartoons. Zooey is a million times cooler than that other dark-haired singer. Plus she just got engaged to Ben Gibbard. Lucky girl.

"Single Ladies" - Beyonce

I'm not a big Beyonce fan, but when I saw this video for the first time, I was in awe. Even with two dancers and a plain backdrop, she totally killed it. Do I even have to mention all of the various youtube videos of people dancing to the song?

"Time to Pretend" - MGMT

Full of random awesomeness. I'm guessing they were all stoned one day think of the music video concept and thought, "hey why not a guy riding a cat?" or "let's have people covered in paint put multi-colored boxes on their heads?"

Hope everyone has a wonderful New Year. Looking forward to all the great things to come in 2009.
