Guest Post Thursday: My Favorite Slayer

One of the great things about blogging is to be a part of such a vast  community where we can be hundreds (or thousands) of miles away from each other but still connect because of shared interests. So I was thinking of bringing more of that community to my blog and I have come up with Guest Post Thursdays. Every week, I'll have a different blogger write a post. It'll be a great way to discover new blogs.

So to kick it off, this weeks guest post comes from Sara from She is Sara. I first discovered her blog 2 years ago from either Chictopia or another blog and immediately added it to my Google reader. Not only does she have cute style, but also a mutual admiration for Gilmore Girls. She also has a mad crush on Rivers Cuomo from Weezer, but who doesn't. Sara is cool and awesome just like the post she wrote on one of her favorite shows of all time.

Hey readers of Maybe Someday We’ll Be Smarter, this is Sara from She is Sara, taking over Stephanie’s blog for a quick & nerdy post in celebration of her recent adventures at Comic-Con. She asked me to do a post that would capture some of our geeky nature and I am here to talking about one of the greatest TV shows of all-time; Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Yes kids that is correct, before there were ridiculous sparkly Vampires plaguing the media, there were Spike & Angel. There were also Wiccans, Werewolves, Watchers and oh, yeah, Slayers. Ideally there is supposed to only be one girl, with super-power strength and the aide of a Watcher (cue sexy librarian), to watch over the Hell-Mouth, located in Sunnydale California, to prevent the blood-suckers from feasting on humans, and to also stop any Demons that may cause harm to humanity as well. All while attending high school, oh and the Slayer cannot reveal her identity to anyone.  Meet Buffy, she is the vampire slayer.
Buffy has a few issues, one is that it is really hard to maintain a normal social life during the day while patrolling for Vampires in graveyards at night, so constant battles with her mother and school officials ensues. She has a knack for dying a lot, and technically once the slayer dies, another is chosen to take her place, so there are times when there is actually more than one Slayer in Sunnydale. Buffy also has a bad habit of falling for the thing she is supposed to detest the most, Vampires. But really, how could you resist a forehead like that?

Or a Billy Idol doppelganger like this?

Luckily since she is already breaking the rules, quite a few people find out that she is The Slayer and they are there to help. Some of them obtain special powers of their own, but most are just close friends that help out in any way they can, even if it means getting hurt occasionally. With the Scooby-gang on duty, the Hell Mouth has a hard time causing chaos. They protect and serve, one apocalypse at a time.

Thanks again Sara for sharing with us your love of Buffy! Don't forget to check out her blog and if you would like to participate in Guest Post Thursday, send an e-mail to

What a great post Sara! Buffy is for sure one of the best shows out there. I grew up watching this show and was always a Spike girl (before they had these team edward/jacob fights).

I can't wait to check out the rest of your blog!
